The City of Vaughan’s 2008 Summer Recreation Guide will be delivered to Vaughan residents this weekend in local newspapers.
“The guide is being made available earlier than usual this year to make planning summer leisure activities more convenient and flexible,” said Mayor Linda Jackson. “We have wonderful recreational facilities and a range of recreational pursuits to help you get fit and stay active. It’s a great way to spend time with family, make new friends and connect with the community.”
The guide lists a variety of indoor and outdoor recreation options for all ages and abilities, as well as an extensive choice of summer camps for children and youth. Vaughan’s day camps offer children the opportunity to learn new skills, make new friends, and have fun. Registration takes place Feb.19 to 22, depending on camp location. Several new camps are being offered, including: ECO-Kids; Forensic Camper Institute; Junior Hoop Stars Basketball; Summer Extravaganza; and Leaders by Example.
Swimming lessons, leadership courses, sports, health and wellness, and various arts programs are featured in the guide. This summer several new programs are being offered, including: Dog Training; Pole Walking; Ultimate Frisbee; Adventure Kids; ActiveKidz in the Park; Baby Sign; and Stroller Derby. Other activities include the Vaughan Youth Week in May and the Ontario Senior Games in June. New initiatives such as the Art Exhibition and Studio Space Rental program are also highlighted.
“We are pleased to now offer one-week sessions at more than 80 per cent of our camps,” said Marlon Kallideen, Commissioner of Community Services. “These shorter sessions offer parents flexibility and more options.”
Refer to the new guide for a complete list of programs and options or visit online at www.RecEnrollVaughan.ca beginning Feb. 4. Registration for general summer programs starts April 1. Applications for summer swimming lessons will be accepted from June 3 to 10, depending on the pool location. Register online at www.RecEnrollVaughan.ca.
The 2008 Summer Recreation Guide will also be available at all of the City’s community centres and libraries. For more information or assistance, call the Recreation and Culture Department at 905-832-8500.
